The DA Youth notes reports in The Times today that the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) staff have downed tools and are staging a protest about bonuses.
We highlighted some time ago the fact that when NYDA was formed, staff from its predecessor organisations, the Umsobomvu Youth Fund (UYF) and National Youth Commission (NYC), were simply incorporated into NYDA without any thought being given to how the new structure would operate and without new employment contracts being signed.
In the interests of ensuring that the rollout of youth development programmes is not jeopardised by internal staffing matters, we advise NYDA to urgently reassess their staffing structure and to ensure new contracts are signed with staff from the UYF and NYC. Superfluous positions that are not aligned with the outcomes of NYDA need to be removed so that NYDA can focus expenditure on tangible youth development projects and not on funding a bloated staff compliment.
