March against the Protection of Information Bill and Media Tribunal

On Saturday the 18th of September, DA Leader Helen Zille, ID President Patricia de Lille, DA Youth Leader Makashule Gana and DA Member of Parliament and former journalist, Sej Motau, will lead a protest march against the Protection of Information Bill and the ANC’s proposed Media Appeals Tribunal. The four leaders will deliver speeches outside the Constitutional Court to set out the case against the Government’s attempts to muzzle the free press and to subvert democratic accountability.

Starting point: Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (9 Jubilee Road, Parktown, Johannesburg)
March route: Proceed from Jubilee Road into York Road. Proceed down York Road, turn right into St Andrews Roads and then left into Queens Road. The march will proceed up Queens Road on to Constitution Hill, until turning right into the Constitutional Court courtyard.

Directions to Starting Point:

From Sandton/Midrand/Pretoria:

Get on to the N1 South (in the case of Pretoria and Midrand) and the M1 South and head towards Johannesburg, proceed along it until you reach the Houghton Drive/Jo Slovo Dr off ramp and exit the freeway along it. Go over the 1st robot and turn left at the 2nd into Carse O’Gowrie. Again, go over the 1st robot and turn right at the next into York Road. That road takes a left turn and becomes Jubilee Road.

From the East Rand:

Along the N12 East Take the off ramp to Durban  and proceed south until the off ramp to the M2 East and West. Take the M2 West. Proceed along it until you reach the split to M1 Sandton/Pretoria. Take it. Come off the M1 at the Jan Smuts Avenue off ramp. Cross over Jan Smuts and proceed along St Andrews Road until you reach the robot at St David Place. Turn left and proceed all along it until the end and turn right into Trematon Road. At the next intersection, turn left into Victoria Avenue and immediately right into Jubilee Road. Proceed along it until the starting point.
