Speech by Makashule Gana delivered at the DA’s final rally in Khayelitsha on 14 May.

Fellow South Africans,

The winds of change are sweeping across the municipalities, this change will not be brought by burning tyres and damaging municipal properties. The change will be brought by a vote for the DA. South Africa’s youth will be speaking in one voice, a voice that will send a chilling pain down the spines of some political parties, they will be voting for DA. Not because we are perfect, but because we deliver to all the people wherever we govern.

South Africans understand that the first step in realising the dream of service delivery to all starts with a vote for the DA on the 18th of May. As the youth of South Africa we have responsibility to create safe and prosperous municipalities, not only for ourselves or our parents, but for the next generation. It is not about us, and as the future leaders of this country we can’t afford to be selfish, we will go and vote on the 18th, and vote for a party that delivers for all.

This is a responsibility we are not going to outsource. We will not allow the circumstances of our birth determine how far we will reach. On the 18th of May the youth will be voting for the party that will ensure that there is running water in the rural villages of Limpopo, Eastern Cape and everywhere in South Africa. The youth of Johannesburg, other cities and towns are saying Cape Town does not have a monopoly on the cleanliness of the innercity, they too will vote for the party that will ensure that the inner city is clean and safe. And that party is the DA. I know this because I have spoken to the youth in rural villages, informal settlements, township and surbubs.

The youth will be voting for a party that will create an environment for investors so that they get jobs.

Hi ri Vantshwa va Afrika Dzonga hi karhele ku pfaleriwa minyangwa ya mintirho hi tikhanselara le ti ti ngana vukungundzwana. Hi lava vandla leri ri tirhelaka vanhu hinkwavo. Vandla leri ri nga ta pfula minyangwa ya mintirho.

Fellow South Africans, I believe in change, I believe in tomorrow, I believe I can make a difference, and on the 18th I will vote for the DA and if you too believe, Vote for DA. My vote and your vote can win it, not for ourselves but for the next generation.

Amandla.
